Scientists from the University of London Queen Mary teamed up with Nokia, to develop a smartphone that can be charged with the sound. Together they managed to create a working prototype that can be charged from the background noise generated by cars, people's voices, music and other things. This prototype size is commensurate with the Nokia Lumia 925, and five volts derived from the noise generated is enough to charge the battery of your smartphone.
"We are able to make mobile devices work by using the energy that surrounds us everywhere. Cooperation with Nokia was a great opportunity for the development of alternative designs of devices using cheap and extensive methods", - said Dr. Joe Briscoe.
This technology can be used for charging other devices. Unfortunately, it is not known when consumers become massively available devices that can be charged from a sound.
