Apple changed the requirements for manufacturers of covers and protective cases. As part of the updated standard MFi (Made for iPhone) companies must produce covers that offer a higher degree of protection in the fall and are safer for the environment.

Under the new rules, protective accessories should provide sufficient protection for the iPhone and iPad in the fall from a height of not less than 1 meter onto a hard surface.
"The new rules have been introduced in the first months after the launch of the iPhone and the iPhone 6 6 Plus. Manufacturers are required to ensure the protection of mobile devices when dropped from a height of 1 meter onto a hard surface. Moreover, security must be guaranteed when landing in any position" - writes 9to5Mac.
Now covers the iPhone and iPad are also required to protect the glass when the device is the screen down. To this end, implement manufacturers have in their products, the gap is not less than 1 mm and between the display surface. To meet this requirement, the company can either completely cover the screen with an additional protective glass, or make the edges of covers speakers.
In addition, the California manufacturer has expanded the list of substances and materials that are prohibited for use in the production of accessories for iPhone, iPod and iPad. This list is supplemented with formaldehyde, phthalates, PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), PFOS compounds (perfluorooctanesulfonate), PBB (Polybrominated biphenyl), and endangered species of flora and fauna.
