After installing the update in the "System Information" on the "Hardware" there is a new section «NVMExpress». Selecting it, the user will see a list of compatible drives connected.
NVM Express replaces the usual AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface). The new protocol is designed to work with SSD-drives, and brings them a lot of interesting work, including, for example, the ability to organize at the same time all of the 64 000 requests, each of which can contain 64,000 teams. Interface AHCI, by comparison, can send the drive at the same time not more than 32 teams.
"NVM Express standard was developed by a consortium of 80 members, which include giants such as Intel, Samsung and LSI. It was created from the ground up specifically for the SSD, given the low latency and high parallelism of SSDs with the interface PCI Express, as well as the prevalence of multi-core processors. "
NVM Express originally developed with an eye on SSDs with low latency and devoid of any "crutches" to support AHCI. Delay when using this standard shall not exceed 2.8 microseconds, versus 6 in AHCI.
The first device that supports the NVM Express is the new 12-inch MacBook display Retina. All succeeding computers Mac, are expected to be deprived of the bottleneck of any modern PC in the face of the disk subsystem.
