Against this background, the mobile memory chips HPC LP-DDR4 should appear in the mobile market about two years ahead of the original schedule, predicts Mike Howard from IHS iSuppli. Analysts suggest that the first samples LP-DDR4 chips come to market in early 2015, and they will become a mainstream technology in 2016.
According to Howard, the first smartphones and tablets with chips LP-DDR4 will debut in the second half of 2015. As a new type of memory is quite expensive, it will be initially popular devices - iPhone, iPad and other gadgets manufacturers. However, the price of it will fall simultaneously with the expansion of production and demand. First it was assumed that mobile chips DDR4 will appear in smartphones and tablets only in 2018.
As the analyst, acceleration coming to a new generation of memory is possible because of the growing popularity of "heavy" mobile content. "Heavy technologies need this memory and need now," - says Howard.
Samsung started trial supplies chips LP-DDR4 earlier this year . According to the company, these chips are 50% faster and 40% more energy efficient LP-DDR3. In tandem with powerful processors, memory provides bandwidth DDR4 in 17 Gbit / s with 32-bit chips, and up to 34 Gbit / s with 64-bit.
In fact, mobile games are the most powerful driver in the development of chips DDR4. That game require higher bandwidth and maximum performance from the hardware subsystem.
Today Qualcomm has already implemented support DDR4 chips in Snapdragon processors 810. Companies SK Hynix and Samsung deliver feelers memory LP-DDR4.
