Elon Musk will hold a tunnel digging contest

Elon Musk is simultaneously working on several promising projects. One of them is the creation by the Boring Company of a network of underground tunnels designed to solve the traffic jam problem. However, the billionaire believes that existing drilling technologies are not effective enough to fully deploy the concept. In this regard, he decided to hold a competition for high-speed tunneling.

One tunnel has already been dug and is operating under Las Vegas. But there is still a lot of work ahead. Despite ongoing criticism, Elon Musk is confident that the future lies in underground transport that can deliver a person from one point to another in the shortest possible time.

"This is a big problem. In ordinary transport, there is always a group of random strangers, one of which may well be a serial killer. And that’s why people like private transport that goes where you want and when you want” said Elon Musk earlier.

To speed up the appearance of branched tunnel networks under the cities, Musk announced a special contest. Its participants will have to create small 30-meter tunnels with a cross section of 0.2 square meters or a diameter of 0.5 meters. The competition will be attended by teams of engineers, individual specialists or companies from different countries. They will be evaluated by the speed of laying, the rate of completion of the finished tunnel and accuracy - the deviation of the actual position of the tunnel and its exits from the design task. After the construction is completed, miniature radio-controlled copies of Tesla electric cars will be launched through the tunnels to test the effectiveness of underground roads.

In the spring of 2021, three winners will be announced, who will complete the laying faster than anyone and with greater accuracy. They are likely to be invited to work for Ilona Mask.
