iFixit experts evaluated the maintainability of the new MacBook Air

No sooner had Apple introduced the updated MacBook Air laptops , as experts iFixit disassembled them apart, studied the electronic stuffing and assessing maintainability.

Presented on Monday MacBook Air equipped with Intel Core 5th generation at up to 2.2 GHz technology and Turbo Boost, increases the frequency up to 3.2 GHz, integrated graphics processor Intel HD Graphics 6000 and supports Thunderbolt technology with a capacity of 2 to 20 Gbit/s. 13-inch MacBook Air is also equipped with a flash memory, speed is increased up to two times compared to the previous generation. The display is 11.6 and 13.3 inches, resolution - 1366x768 and 1440x900 pixels, respectively.

An autopsy revealed that the 11-inch MacBook Air release in 2015 using SSD drive based memory chips 05131 016G SanDisk 16 GB NAND and controller Marvell 88SS9183 PCIe. At the same time, the older version of the laptop was more productive module with memory chips Samsung K9LDGY8S1D-XCK0 16 GB and controller Samsung S4LN058A01 PCIe 3.0 x4 AHCI.

IFixit experts have concluded that the design of the new MacBook Air, as in the previous generation, use non-standard components and proprietary fasteners. At the same time the details of the notebook is quite easy to replace. Completes the picture of the lack of an upgrade. The resulting estimate of maintainability updated machines - 4 points out of 10.
