Researchers at the University of Montreal presented at SIGGRAPH 2014 in Vancouver, a revolutionary system of three-dimensional visualization of Hybrid Virtual Environment 3D, created on the basis of MacBook Pro laptops and tablets iPad mini.
«Hyve-3D - a new interface for creating 3D-content with the principle of combining sketches - explains Thomas Dort, a professor of School of Design at the University. - The system will create exciting full-realistic models of the environment. Users can draw sketches on the plates and then combines them into 3D-models. " For example, this means that the designer can draw a sketch of the interior of the car, and then collect them and work out all the details on the three-dimensional model, as if he found himself inside.
According to Popmech , 3D-image is the result of an optical illusion created widescreen projector with high resolution, spherical concave screen with a diameter of 5 meters and 41-cm mirror in the shape of a dome, with which the image is projected on the screen. The system is controlled by a laptop MacBook Pro and two 3D-sensors, each of which is attached tablet iPad mini.
"Software is responsible for managing 3D-graphics, image projection and the interaction between sensors and tablets," - says Thomas. As a result, the application of two-dimensional drawings renders the 3D-scene in the spherical projection in real time.
Until now, three-dimensional graphics require complex and expensive equipment. "Our system is innovative and at the same time simple, - said the professor. - Behind him lies a huge potential in the industrial and architectural design, engineering, medicine, game design, animation, and creating movies. My team is looking forward to the system on the market to see what else people come up with to do with it "- Thomas proud.
