Google has faced production difficulties in the manufacture of motherboards for modular smartphone Project Ara. In addition, the search giant has already signed a contract with the company to develop a Rockchip processor module for smartphones.
Despite the fact that there are many Rockchip ready-made solutions, Project Ara has enough specifics. It is reported that the new processor will be used protocol UniPro, which allows various mobile components to communicate with each other in a standardized way. This means that the processor will only be used to run applications. The use of this processor will get rid of the need for a separate chip, which would be responsible for communication between components, which is an important part of the normal functioning of the modular smartphone.
Paul Eremenko, responsible for Project Ara, sure that the processor from Rockchip will be released only to the third generation of the project. The second-generation Project Ara will be presented later this year at a special conference for developers, dedicated to this project.
