Study: not all gamers are satisfied with the development of the industry over the past 10 years

In the gaming industry, new trends appear every year, and very soon the next generation of consoles will start. However, apparently, not all gamers are happy with the changes that have occurred over the past decade. A recent survey of the British store OnBuy revealed: every fifth user thinks that it was better before.

21% of respondents agreed with this statement. At the same time, the majority (47%) believe in the development of the industry and improving the quality of games, and the remaining 32% did not notice serious changes over these 10 years. The survey involved more than 2 thousand people.

Among the improvements in games, respondents most often indicated graphics (85%), gameplay (72%) and online features (56%). The worst changes in the industry were the influence of political and social trends on AAA-titles (54%), an increase in the number of microtransactions (52%) and releases of unfinished projects (49%).

Positive changes:

Graphics: Red Dead Redemption II, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Last of Us Part II
Gameplay: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, DOOM Eternal
Multiplayer: Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, Destiny 2
Number of female characters: Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us Part II
Scale of games: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Red Dead Redemption II, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Negative changes:

The Impact of Society and Politics: Borderlands 3, Battlefield V, The Last of Us Part II
Microtransactions: Star Wars Battlefront II, FIFA 20, Destiny 2
Incomplete Games: Fallout 76, No Man’s Sky, Anthem
Not enough content: Call of Duty Black Ops IIII, Star Wars Battlefront II, Battlefield V
Game and Update File Size: Call of Duty: Warzone, Red Dead Redemption II, Destiny 2

Speaking of positive changes, survey respondents most often called PlayStation exclusives - Uncharted 4, God of War and the recent The Last of Us Part II - as well as Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Xbox games are not on this list at all. The personification of the negative moments in the development of the industry for respondents was Electronic Arts.

The OnBuy store also asked gamers if they had passed The Last of Us Part II. As it turned out, more than 50% of respondents refused to complete the company after the first half of the story and only a quarter went through the game to the end. Recall that critics called the new title from Naughty Dog a real masterpiece, but not all users agreed with them.
