Google annually introduces a new version of its own mobile operating system Android, which is then gradually distributed among smartphones and tablets. 2020 turned out to be a record for the company - the new Android 10 significantly surpassed its predecessor in installation dynamics five months after the release.
Compared with last year’s version of the OS, the dynamics of distribution of Android 10 was 28% higher. Representatives of Google said that they achieved such an impressive indicator thanks to a number of improvements and programs such as Project Treble and Project Mainline, with which equipment manufacturers can create new firmware assemblies in a short time.
Nevertheless, Google is still reluctant to publish information in absolute figures, showing the proportion of previous versions of the mobile OS on user devices. For example, at the time of the launch of Android 10, only 22.6% of devices were running Android 9.0 Pie.
For comparison, the current version of iOS 13 is already installed on 81% of supported Apple gadgets. Experts explain such a significant difference by the fact that the Cupertino company has total control over its products, which it produces independently. At the same time, the number of vendors, in the assortment of which there are devices on Android, is in the tens.
