Imagination Technologies, a British company known in the past as a supplier of PowerVR video accelerators for iPhone and iPad, has announced the release of XS graphics processors designed for cars. According to the manufacturer, the new GPUs significantly surpass all existing analogues in the automotive industry.
XS GPUs are primarily designed for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), providing high-speed computing critical to user safety. In particular, new chips display information faster on displays installed in modern cars. It can be all sorts of notifications and images from cameras fixed around the perimeter of the car.
The manufacturer paid special attention not only to performance, but also to the energy-saving properties of the new GPUs, in order to guarantee smooth operation even with several operating systems or multiple displays installed in the car. The new GPUs are able to generate real-time three-dimensional images of the environment during parking and even allow you to look at the car from different points of view to avoid collisions. Compared to competing solutions, all calculations occur at least twice as fast.
Imagination Technologies says it controls more than half of the automotive graphics processor market. The release of the new XS GPU should further strengthen the company's position. Their release should take place before the end of this year.
